The Department of Political Science is one of the leading centres for the study of politics in the country. Established in 1927 (the second oldest in the country), the Department is built on historical strength and a leader in research and teaching in contemporary political science. Home to 23 faculty, whose scholarship and teaching span across various subfields such as political thought, political theory, international relations, comparative politics, Indian government and politics, public administration and public policy. Our faculty members transcend these subfields with research and teaching in understanding contemporary social realities. The BA undergraduate course is among the largest in the University, the MA graduate programme has been producing eminent civil servants and PhD students who continue to make their impact in the discipline across the globe. The faculty members play active role in nurturing the students and cater to the need of the dynamic department through various committees at department and university level, such as IQAC Cell, Placement Cell, Remedial Cell, Mentor-Mentee Committee, ICT Cell, Distinguished Lecture Committee and Faculty Lecture Series Committee.
The department also organises numerous seminars, lectures and conferences that are open to all the members of the student community. The department has its own library comprising nearly five thousand books and has its own computer Lab. Most importantly, department is well equipped with interactive digital classrooms empowering teachers and students using modern ICT tools to develop future skills in students such as critical thinking, creativity and communication.
