The scientists at Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences (CBCS), University of Allahabad are going to conduct a study to investigate the effect of solar eclipse on Human Brain function and its connections. The study will be conducted on 21st June, 2020, on the day of the solar eclipse as well as a pre and post eclipse investigation at the National Neuroimaging Facility at CBCS, University of Allahabad. The research is being conducted by Prof. Bhoomika Kar, Head CBCS and Dr. Amrendra Singh, Postdoctoral fellow, CBCS, University of Allahabad. This study is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Gopikrishna Deshpande, Faculty at the MRI Research Center, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Auburn University, USA. Prof. Kar informed that this is a multicentre study being conducted at Centres including Auburn University, USA, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore and Symbiosis International University, Pune, and CBCS, University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, India. The study will use the fMRI technique to understand th effect of solar eclipse on human brain’s functional connectivity. It is to be noted that solar eclipse which is a celestial phenomena has garnered a significant amount of attention from scientists from various fields. Scientists have ascertained that the radiation during solar eclipse affects various aspects, ranging from the climate to the surface of the earth and brain functioning. There is not much scientific evidence regarding the specific effects of the solar eclipse on human brain function. The collaborative study by the researchers of University of Allahabad will be an important step in this direction.
