The Department of Economics, University of Allahabad organised a special lecture to commemorate the "World Population Day" under the aegis of Eco- Green on 11th July 2017. The guest speaker was Prof. A.K.Jain, former professor, Department of economics, department of Economics, University of Allahabad. Prof. A.K.Jain's lecture revolved around the issue of employability and ageing. In the last 40 years world population has doubled. The world population of 40 crores in year 1000 increased to 100 crores in 1804, 300 crores in 1960 and 600 crores in 2000. Presently, 180 crores of the world population is in the 10-24 age bracket while 52% is under 30 years. So, the ways to increase employability was emphasised in his lecture. On the issue of ageing he said old people are considered as liabilities and policy making does not focus more on this. The function was conducted by Prof. P.K.Ghosh and he also highlighted a new concept of Demographic Debt. Many M.A. students and research scholars of the department also actively participated and interacted on the issue. Avinash kumar, Harshvardhan, Darshana Kumari shared their views and raised relevant questions on the issue. Prof. Prahlad Kumar, Kiran Singh and Rekha Gupta were other faculty members present on the occassion. Mr. Javed Akhtar extended the vote of thanks.
