                                                      Vice Chancellor at ICG 2017, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi
Indian Institute of Geomorphologists (IGI),Department of Geography,University of Allahabad is hosting the 9th International Conference of Geomorphology on the theme of ‘Geomorphology and Society’ at VigyanBhawan, New Delhi during 6-11thNovember 2017. It is the biggest conference of the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG). The first conference of IAG was held in 1985 at Manchester (U. K.), the second conference in 1989 at  Frankfurt (Germany), third in 1993 at Hamilton (Canada), fourth in 1997 at Bologna (Italy), fifth in 2001 at Tokyo (Japan), sixth in 2005 at Zaragoza (Spain), seventh in 2009 at Melbourne (Australia), and the eighth conference in 2013 at Paris. Around 800 delegates have been registered to attend the conference from 53 different countries including around 100 delegates from India.  Scholars from different categories suggested planning strategies for monitoring and mapping of arid, coastal, glacial, peri-glacial and fluvial landmorphs in order to ensure sustainability. Prof. Sunil De of North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong was the convenor of the conference andProf. Eric Fouache, Vice Chancellor of the University Paris Sorbonne Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) was the Chief Guest.

Prof.Savindra Singh has been awarded an Honorary Fellow of International Association of Geomorphologists and elected as President of Indian Institute of Geomorphologists and Prof. A. R Siddiqui was re-elected as Secretary-Generalof the Indian Institute of Geomorphologists. Prof. Siddiqui presented his work in the technical session on Desertification as Evidenced from Changing Pasture Land Ecology. Prof. A. R. Siddiqui and Mr Avijit Sahay jointly presented a paper on Emergent Issue of River Bank Erosion, Geomorphological Change And Migration Experiences In Majuli, Assam. It highlighted that the Neo-Vaishnavite culture of Majuli is based on the primacy of monasteries called ‘Satras’ insocial and religious matter of the island. The paper concluded that river bank erosion in the Brahmaputra has impacted the change in the geography of Island by massive erosion. Secondly, change in the pattern of landuse matrix and finally closing down as well as therelocation of Satras outside Majuli has brought large-scale changes to the geography of Majuli and in the process has modified the island’s age-old society and economy.

            The next conference of IAG would be held in Portugal in the year 2021. Indian Institute of Geomorphologists, Department of Geography, University of Allahabad feel proud to hold this conference in India. Prof. Rattan Lal Hangloo  grace the Valedictory function of the  9th  ICG conference as Guest of Honour on 11th November 2017 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.Prof.Hangloo highlighted that population increase is pacing huge demand on food production’the capacity to produce is being severely limited by anthropogenic and climate driven soil degradation and erosion.Geomorphologists can identify the outcomes and risks and communicate them effectively to resource managers,planners,industry,government and the public. As the Secretary-General of the Indian Institute of Geomorphologists Prof. Siddiqui appreciated the effort of Prof. Sunil De, Convenor and Secretary-General of International Association of Geomorphologists to hold this Olympic of Geomorphology in India with great success.

विश्वविद्यालय प्लेसमेन्ट सेल (यू.पी.सी.) एवं माडल कैरियर सेन्टर, तृतीय तल, एफ0सी0आई0 परिसर, इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय इलाहाबाद द्वारा दिनांकः 11-11-2017 को कैम्पस प्लेसमेंट का आयोजन किया गया जिसमें विश्वविद्यालय एवं उससे सम्बद्ध महाविद्यालयों के 2017 परास्नातक एवं परास्नातक तृतीय सेमेस्टर में अध्ययनरत (विषय- हिन्दी, अंग्रेजी, इतिहास, राजनीति शास्त्र, भूगोल, गणित, भौतिक विज्ञान, एवं रसायन विज्ञान) कुल 361 अभ्यर्थियों ने पंजीयन कराया था तथा इस कार्यक्रम मे 271 अभ्यर्थियों ने प्री-प्लेसमेन्ट टाक(पी.पी.टी.) एवं लिखित परीक्षा मे प्रतिभाग किया। यह कार्यक्रम  देश की प्रतिष्ठित संस्था ’’अजीम प्रेमजी फाउडेशन’’ जो कि भारतवर्ष मे गुणात्मक एवं समतामूलक शिक्षा के प्रचार-प्रसार के क्षेत्र मे कार्य करने वाला गैर-लाभानवेशी संगठन है द्वारा ’’एसोसिएट’’ पद हेतु आयोजित किया गया। लिखित परीक्षा के परिणाम तथा  साक्षात्कार तिथि हेतु अभ्यर्थियो को ईमेल के माध्यम से सूचित किया जायेगा प्
साक्षात्कार के उपरान्त अन्तिम रूप से चयतिन अभ्यर्थियो को रू0 28000/- प्रतिमाह के पैकेज पर चयनित किया जायेगा। कार्यक्रम मे अजीम प्रेमजी फाउडेशन के प्रतिनिधि श्री पीयूष शुक्ला ने अभ्यर्थियों को संगठन के बारे मे जानकारी प्रदान की  तथा उनका  उत्साहवर्धन किया।
